A showcase of the best work of student radio programme-makers was held at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester last week.

Radio industry guests at the Cat Radio Awards included BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Phil Williams, a graduate of the University’s radio course, and Bauer Media’s Group Content Director Owen Ryan, who oversees the output on such stations as Manchester’s Key 103, Liverpool’s Radio City and Lancashire’s Rock FM.

The awards celebrated the best work of student programme-makers and presenters on the University’s Cat Radio station and were judged by industry experts including XFM’s Hattie Pearson, Rock FM’s Stu Tolan, Gaydio's Emma Goswell, Signal FM's Paul Fairclough, Bauer Radio Network Content Director Mike Cass, Reactive Media's Ian James, BBC radio journalist Faye Ruscoe and Bauer Media’s Editor-in-Chief John Pickford.

The 1975, Eliza and the Bear, Turin Brakes, Newton Faulkner, Sandi Thom and Elbow’s Richard Jupp are among those who have been interviewed by The Cat Radio this year. The station has also been recently nominated for a national award and winners of the ‘I Love Student Radio Awards’ will be announced at the end of March.
