24 Jun 2016

Donors who made the creation and installation of the Alumni window possible were invited to a special celebratory service in the University’s Chapel recently.

Around 80 people attended the service which was organised by the Alumni and Development Office at the University, in conjunction with the Chaplaincy team.

Former students, for whom the Chapel played an important part of their College life, and still remains a special place for them to this day, shared their memories and reflections during the service.  The Chapel’s new, modern technology which was installed as part of the renovation work in 2015, allowed current students to share their thoughts about Chapel in University life today, to be played via video.

Representatives from Pendle Stained Glass, the company which designed and produced the Window, also attended the service and were on hand at the ‘Afternoon Tea’ Reception which followed, to talk about the methods used in its creation.

During the Reception, alumnus, Peter Thompson, who attended the then Chester College between 1965-68 and was Chapel warden in that time, cut a decorated cake which was made by the University’s catering team.

Fiona Roberts, Alumni and Development Manager said: “It was wonderful to see the Chapel filled with alumni from six decades, and to see old friendships being renewed. The alumni who donated the money for the window, saw the Alumni Window in place.  It has magnificent artwork, showing images of events and places which inspired them and earlier students from the past.  We are very grateful to everyone who supported this special commemoration of all staff and students of the institution during its 175 year history.”
