It is with regret that the University has been informed of the death of Professor John Borland who passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 after a sudden illness.

John had been a Professor with the Department of Social Studies and Counselling since 2007 and was absolutely pivotal in establishing policing provision at the University’s Warrington Campus.

A distinguished, experienced and well-published researcher, John was a tireless ambassador for the University, and unstintingly advocated the establishment of links between the University and Cheshire Constabulary to ensure the development of a professional police service.
John was a truly inspirational individual who was able to stimulate enthusiasm and creativity amongst everyone he worked with. He was a highly regarded member of the Faculty of Social Science, contributing significantly to its work, and will be deeply missed by all who came into contact with him.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
On behalf of Dr David Balsamo, Dean of Social Science
