Alumni enjoyed browsing through the collection of Padgate College memorabilia which has been donated to the University’s archive

Former students and staff from the past seven decades, returned to the Warrington Campus recently to take part in ‘Warrington Memories’, an event which took people on a trip down memory lane while sharing photos, stories and recollections of life at the Crab Lane site.

The Campus which has been part of the University since 2002, was previously home to the former Padgate College which was established in 1946. Hilary Tucker, the last Principal of the College, welcomed everyone to the Campus and started the memories rolling with her own recollections, dating from her arrival in 1975.

Several people recognised their former tutors and were able to offer their additions to the stories, which included an account of the day when male students first arrived on campus in 1957 – a cohort of 23 men who all received applause from the female students, as they entered the dining room for their first evening meal. Alumnus, John Hart, who is still based in the Warrington area, revealed that he was one of the men who received the applause!

Fiona Roberts Alumni and Development Manager at the University said: “We felt most privileged to meet those who attended the event, and to hear such inspiring stories from the past, learning more about the history of the institution and the people connected to it.  Keeping these connections is so important as we build our archive, and we are grateful to everyone who has donated photos, documents and other items.

“Staying in touch is not always easy; people change name, move house and switch email addresses etc but we endeavour to keep those for whom we have contact details, informed of our events and ways in which they can still stay connected to the institution.”

If you studied at the Warrington Campus and would like to be kept informed of future events, email: or telephone 01244 511091, the Alumni and Development team will always be pleased to hear from you.
