Former staff member to be made an MBE.

A former member of University staff, known throughout the city for her involvement with Chester Mystery Plays, has been made an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list.

Jo Sykes, (pictured left) former Director of Registry Services at the University had an active interest in the performing arts, being involved in Chester Mystery Plays both as an actor and more recently as a trustee. This eventually led to her appointment as Chairman of the company in 2003.

Mrs Sykes, who retired in 2003, is also a director of Theatre in the Quarter and a director and vice-chairman of The Hammond, an independent school in Chester specialising in the performing arts.

She was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Cheshire in November 2013.

Mrs Sykes will receive her MBE at an official ceremony later in the year.
